2月のテーマは接続詞 　発言の流れを作る

👉２月は、1月に引き続き接続詞ついて学習します。

Lesson 203 主要接続詞⑦：though, although

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hi, everyone. Akino Roza here. Welcome back. And let’s get started.

Chris
▶︎ Hello, everyone. I’m Chris McVay. Yes, let’s enjoy our English practice 
together.

Dialogue で

① I’d like to.
👉 would like to が使われた I’d like to. というのが出てきましたね。
よく使われる表現ですので、しっかりと覚えておきましょう。

② Do you drive, Mr. Smith?
👉さあ、Do you drive? という文が出てきましたね。現在形の疑問文です。
つまり「普段からいつも運転するんですか」という質問になっています。

③ I’m not such a good driver either.
👉さあ、such a good driver というフレーズが出てきましたね。
such a 〜 これは強調表現です。「非常に、とても」というわけですね。
▶︎それが、not で否定された「部分否定」となっています。
「非常にいい運転手 – ではありません」-「それほどではない」という形です。

 

 

 

 

 

④ As with anything, right?
👉 as with 〜 これは「〜と同様に」というフレーズ。as の「＝(イコール)」が
生きていますね。

Practice

▶︎ OK, guys. It’s practice time again.
Today we’re going to focus on “though” and “although.”
Now these introduces an element that seems to go agains the main flow,
but in fact doesn’t stop it.
OK. Let’s practice together.
・Though I was tired, I kept on studying.
So you think “I was tired,” so I won’t keep on studying, but no, 
the main flow continues. So a couple more.
・Though I was sleepy, I kept on studying.
・Though I was a bit bored, I kept on studying.

Roza
▶︎ OK. Next example.
・He doesn’t speak a word of Japanese, though he’s lived in Japan for ten years.
Great! Now let’s try this example with “although.”
・He doesn’t speak a word of Japanese, although he’s lived in Japan for ten years.

Chris
▶︎ And the last one.
・Even though it was raining hard, I played golf.
Again you would imagine “raining hard.” So the main flow of playing golf
would stop, but no, the main flow continues. Last time together.
・Even though it was raining hard, I played golf.

▶︎ Although we tell you this all the time, I’m going to tell you again.
That was excellent.
