会話の場面

登場人物

・異星人ゼイトクス(Zaytox)
・地球外生命を研究する科学者グループ
※面会している場面です。

状況

・なんと今度はゼイトクスが科学者グループで面会して話をしています。
しかし異星人はラーメンがお好きなようですね。

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here. Ready for today’s lesson? Let’s go.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. Let’s see what sprouts up today!

Dialogue で

① That’s probably true. 【probably の発音】
👉さあ、probably という単語が出てきました。
ちょっとお二人に聞いてみましょうか。
▶︎ Hey, guys. How do you pronounce “probably”?
Roza：Well, in a casual setting, I would say “probly.”
Onishi: How about you, David?
David：If I’m speaking at a natural speed, I’d say “proly.”

② We have to ask you to stop meeting with humans.【目的語説明型】
👉さあ、ここでは ask you to stop というフレーズが出てきましたね。
これは、to 不定詞を使った目的語説明型。
「あなたが to stop 方向に動くように – 頼む」というですね、そうした意味合いを
持っています。

Practice

▶︎ OK, everyone. We’d better practice these typical expressions.

Roza
▶︎ I see no alternative but to do so.

David
▶︎ All right. Let’s get to it. Here’s the first couple.
・We must stop him right away.
・We have to stop him right away.
Here’s one more.
・We will have to stop him right away.

▶︎ Excellent! Let’s continue. Here we practice “we’d better.” Ready?
・We’d better call our lawyer.
・We’d better get a move on.
・We’d better consider their offer.

▶︎ And here’s a few more.
