👉３月は、２月に引き続き流れ「フロー」についての学習です。

Lesson 223 条件を表すフロー①：if の意図

if の意図▶︎ 何を実現したいのか – 「意図」と結びつく
※「圧力・脅し・アドバイス・提案」へのニュアンスになる

Opening で

Let’s get started.

Dialogue で

① Derek, how are you feeling?
👉「気分はいかがですか」
この文は、もう丸ごと覚えてしまいましょう。

② You look good.
👉さあ、You look good. オーバーラッピングの形が出てきましたね。
you ＝ good に見える、という形です。

③ You know we had to cancel the Japan tour.
👉さあ、ここで had to というですね、have to の過去形が出てきましたね。
have to は「〜する強い必要がある」という事実を述べたフレーズなんですね。
「〜する必要がありました」というわけですね。

④ Derek, you have to be more careful.
👉さあ、比較級をしっかりと会話に取り入れてくださいね。
You have to be careful. それでもいいですが、
「以前よりました – You have to be more careful」こういうところで、
比較級を活かしてみてください。

Practice

▶︎ OK, guys. Practice, practice, practice time.
Today let’s look at the variety of uses of “if clauses.”
They can be used to express different levels of pressure.
They can be used to give advice, and also to make suggestions.
So it’s really useful to practice these.
Let’s begin.
・If you don’t study seriously, you’ll fail the exam.
OK. This is an example of light pressure.
And one more example of light pressure.
・If you don’t book the flights soon, there’ll be no seats left.

・If I catch you sleeping on the job again, I’ll fire you. ×２

▶︎ OK. Now let’s give some advice.
・If you stop smoking, you’ll be healthier.
And one more which we use a lot.
・If you listen to Radio Eikaiwa, your English will improve.

▶︎ And our last example.
・What if we take Johnnie to a theme park for his birthday?
Let’s try that one more time.

▶︎ I think that’s a marvelous idea.

▶︎ Hey, Chris. What do you mean exactly when you say
“if you practice in front of a mirror, you’ll improve your presentation skills”?

Chris.
▶︎ Well, you know, facial expressions and gestures are very important
when it comes to making good presentations. So a mirror can help you
check these, and make you look less robotic.

Roza
▶︎ But Sensei, be careful. If you practice in front of a mirror,
you might break the mirror.

Onishi
▶︎ Ah 〜, yes. The mirror will be impressed.
