実例あげて取り上げていきます。

Lesson 59 発言タイプ：約束する② 保証する

👉約束する② 保証する
▶︎「保証」が約束の一種。発言内容が正しいことを相手に「約束」するからです。

会話の場面

登場人物

・トークショー司会者のバリー・キング (Barry King)
・めいのケリー (Kelly)

状況

・オンライン会議アプリを使って、２人が話をしています。ケリーが、トークショーの
ホストになる？

Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. This is Akino Roza.

David
▶︎ And I’m David Evans. Slow and steady wins the race.
So let’s keep going.

Dialogue で

① You need to turn up the microphone..【up のニュアンス】
👉 turn up – turn up というのは「音量などを上げる」ということ。
「上」の up ですね。

② I used it a lot on the job.【on のニュアンス】
👉ここの on the job しっかりと覚えておきましょう。
ステージ上のものが想定されていて、その「上に」ということですよ。
「仕事の上で」というわけです。

③ Do you really think I can be a talk show host like you?【リポート文の形】
👉さあ、Do you really think と言い切った後に、think の後ろに
その内容を説明するリポート文の形です。

Now here I wanna focus on intonation. So I want you to try to link “for” and
“sure,” like thins, “for sure,” “for sure.” With that mind, let’s try this sentence.
・For sure, we’ll arrive by nightfall.
Excellent! This will make your sentence sound very natural and smooth.
Let’s try a couple more.

・I assure you.
