Opening で

Roza
▶︎ Hey, everyone. Akino Roza here.

Chris
▶︎ Chris McVay here. Roza, you know, I’m young for my age, right?

Roza
▶︎ Yes, of course.

Chris
▶︎ (It) doesn’t sound honest, does it?

Onishi
▶︎ NO!

Dialogue で

① I’m looking forward to teaching again.
👉 look forward to「〜を楽しみにしている」このフレーズは、もう１語として
使えるようにしてくださいね。そして、to の後ろは動詞 ing形です。
なぜなら、この to は、to不定詞ではなく、前置詞の to だからです。

② Yes, we‘ve been catching up on old times.
👉さあ、ここでは have been ing形 – 現在完了進行形が出てきましたね。
過去から現在に向けて、出来事が何度も繰り返されている様子を描写して
いる形です。ずっと、catching up, catching up, catching up している
というわけです。

③ It sounds like a little romance.
👉さあ、この sounds「〜に聞こえる」という意味合いですね。
文全体は説明型オーバーラッピングの形です。

④ I’ll be a bachelor for life.
👉 bachelor – これは「独身」ということですけれども、
男性に関して用いる単語です。

Let’s continue practicing this very versatile preposition “for.”
Today “for” is used when we wish to focus on a range of things, or
a period of time.
So let’s look at several examples like that. Here we go!

Roza
▶︎ And remember! Think in English!

Chris
▶︎ OK. I was in London for a month.
Now looking at the period of time – for a month.
・I was in London for a month.
Try it! OK. Another one.
・I’ll be a bachelor for life.

Roza
▶︎ Continuing on.
・You’re young for your age.
・short for a basketball player
・small for a T. rex

Chris
▶︎ OK. Keep going,
・responsible for what? – for quality control. That’s the range.
・had pasta for lunch
・had pasta for dinner
